Named Fond du Lac by French settlers, literally translated as Foot of the Lake,
this town is found on the south end of Wisconsin's largest freshwater body,
Lake Winnebago. Visitors of this lakeside community will find a myriad of attractions,
from theatrical to historical to recreational. The Galloway House and Village
is one of Fond du Lac's premier destinations, boasting a 30-room house, a museum
and more than two-dozen historical buildings. On the shores of Lake Winnebago,
Lakeside Park is a multi-use area containing a lighthouse, an array of gardens
and lagoons and seasonal rides. Rich in history and scenery, the communities
surrounding Lake Winnebago are frequented by bikers, joggers and drivers. Maps
can be purchased and narrated tours of the county can be rented at the local
chamber of commerce and the Fond du Lac Visitor Center.
